About Sturdza Castle, did you know…
It was, in turn: military hospital, monastic settlement, military explosives depot, placement centre for severely mentally handicapped children. Today it is run by the Metropolitanate of Moldavia and Bucovina and is on the tourist circuit.

The composer George Enescu visited the castle during the First World War, when it was used as a hospital and played among the wounded.
The castle’s library houses 3 of the first 5 known Romanian translations. Originally, the library contained about 60,000 books, some first editions or rare copies, but many of them were destroyed during the war and the communist period.
Today, Sturdza Castle houses several collections, including medieval weapons and costumes from the 16th century.
